SURSAGAR LAKE DEVELOPMENT

Sur Sagar lake also known as the Chand Talao is a lake situated in the middle of the city of Vadodara. The lake was rebuilt with stone masonry in the 18th Century. A 120 ft tall statue of lord Shiva built by Vadodara Mahanagar Seva Sadan stands in the middle of the lake. There are many underwater gates in the lake which empty the lake if it overflows. The water from the lake empties in the Vishvamitra River. There is boating and other recreational activities offered. The statue of Shiva is lit with lights on Mahashivratri to mark the occasion. It is designed to promote pedestrian activities and provide recreational spaces for local communities of the area.  It has emerged as one of the focal points of the area. The project consists of the lake, admin office, site development, children park and outdoor spaces.
